Matt Smith, leader of Detroit’s underappreciated groups Outrageous Cherry and the Volebeats, has a record collection that is vast and runs deep. DJing with him is always an education in great bands that I’ve never heard of, but good luck tracking down your own copy.
He also played a special acoustic set, which was recorded and is linked below the DJ set. To anyone who isn’t already a fan of his songs: I encourage you to give this set a listen. Any good song still shines at its most stripped down, and on this night, I think Matt’s tunes have never sounded better.
